2010 Meek Cousins' Reunion

I received a letter from Sue Prentice, my cousin, about the Meek Cousin' Reunion . The time and place for the next get together is May 28 through 30 2010 in Oklahoma City. This is in the planning stages at the present time. I need each of my "clan" to answer a few questions. (Did you notice you are now a "clan") Please take a few minutes to consider and answer the following questions.

Would you attend a Friday night dessert/visiting time?
Would you attend a Saturday noon meal?
Would you attend a Sunday noon meal?
Are you in favor of having a auction for a fund raiser?
Would you bring something to be auctioned?

I will probably try to attend the Saturday noon meal. Arrive early and stay late.
Get back to me with your answers as soon as you can.

Need help

How do I get a picture from my cell to the blog? I have some beautiful tomatoes to show off. Actually Good Looking my have a better vine full of roma tomatoes than any of us. I would like to be able to transfer a picture here to brag. Any takers to come to my place and train me in the fine points of picture transfer?

Number 9 has 2 more games in baseball this year. He plays at 2:00 in Melissa today. Weather they lose are win determines the time of his next game. You are all invited to come cheer him on. A big cheering crowd might be what he needs to get a hit.

Good Looking and Number 10 have gone to Frisco for the Susan G. Koman run this morning. It never fails to amaze me the things they find to do that serve their fellow man.

Looks like I will be staying on the 24 hour work week a while longer. Not much increase in the amount of work to get done.

I think we will be going to Number 6's next weekend. She is giving a talk in Sacrament on the 14th. It is still good to support our children. Well, it does give me a chance to check on a couple of Grandchildren also.

Will chat more later.

Summer of '57

Birthday's haven't been special for most of my life. I do remember a couple that were above the rest. The one when I was 40, and the one when I was 12. When I turned 40 my wife gave me a surprise party that was really the best I ever had. That is not the one I am going to write about though.

The summer I turned 12 was very unuasal. First off, that was the year Lake Texoma went over the spillway for the first time. We went as a family to see the water go down the river. That is always a great site. It dried out after that, and I remember it being extremely hot in july. On my birthday my father gave me a break from hoeing the sunflowers out of the maize. Because it was my birthday I got to drive the tractor instead trudge along on foot chopping weeds. I remember my older brother didn't think I was big enough to drive the tractor, but I got to anyway. Maybe this would seem like a bigger deal for a birthday if you were the one who had been chopping sunflowers in the hot sun.

Winter, and What's in the Frig?

About all I remember about winter things that have happened is the fact it is usually very cold. As a boy I remember having to get up early in the morning to milk the cow so we could have milk in our cereal, and to drink, and to make butter with, and all the other things you use mild for. There are few things more exciting than trying to milk a cow with clod hands. The cow doesn,t appreciate it, and that makes for a difficult situation. Imagine a cow who walks through the dead coklaburr patch just so there are plenty of burrs stuck in her tail, then imagine the cow switching her tail right at your face. This is bad enough if the weather is balmy, but when the tempature drops below freezing it can be a down right a catastropy. It never failed that I got laughed at when I got to school with those scratch marks on my face. Needless to say I really didn't like the milk cow we had very much. Feeding a herd of beef cows in freezing weather isn't much better. The colder the weather the more you have to feed and the longer it takes. Even if you bundle up it doesn't keep you much warmer, but it does slow you down. My memeories of winter are generally about trying to thaw out the frozen extremities of my body, and the pain that came with slowly thawing frozen flesh. Needless to say winter is not my favorite season.

Now for the frig. I looked into the cooling compartment because at least there isn't frost covering everything making it impossible to tell what is there. If I counted right there are 4 half used bottles of taco sauce,a unopened jar of pickles(surprise),3 plastic containers of leftovers that are not identifiable, some milk(at lest I didn't have to milk the cow for this milk), and a lot space eating stuff that has been there long enough to look like it is growing there. I'm not sure this prompt will bring much interesting bloging.

sunday chat prompt

Since I said that I would try to blog on the prompt that ~e provided here goes.

My fovorite(actually the only one i can think off right now) poem is one I wrote in about the second grade. I hope someone gets a laugh out of this one.

Skunky Wonky was a Skunk
Skunky Wonky let a big stink
And how it stunk

Can't you just see the budding genius .

Another one I remember from the same assignment is:

Star light Star bright
First Star I see tonight
Up above our clothesline high
How I wonder where you are
Through Murphy's underware

I would give credit for this poem if I could remember who turned it in.

~e, maybe with practice I will get better at this.
